How to become a Troop Leader

You have what it takes to be a leader!

With you as their troop leader, girls learn to be true to themselves, make strides towards their dreams, and share in fun-filled activities they’ll remember for a lifetime.

Are you interested in being a Girl Scouts of Cranford troop leader?

To be a leader you must be registered as a volunteer for your troop and complete all of the mandatory training for new leaders. You’ll find this mandatory training in the gsLearn section of the GSHNJ website after logging into MYGS. You can access gsLearn in the left menu bar of your personalized dashboard. It’s accessible on any desktop, tablet, or mobile device and will be populated with the four trainings you’re required to complete, listed below:

  1. Successful Leader Learning Series

  2. Level Training (specific to the grade level troop you will be leading)

  3. GSHNJ Mandated Reporter Training

  4. Managing Your Troop Account - (required only for Troop Treasurers). Every troop must have a designated treasurer.

One adult volunteer in your troop must be First Aid/CPR certified - certification is required whenever your troop ventures outside their regular meeting place, on field trips and during overnight activities. GSHNJ offers a variety of First Aid and CPR trainings from both the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross at discounted rates. You can also use First Aid/CPR certifications with an out-of-council provider, but you need to upload your certificate into your gsLearn account under “Achievements” > “External Learning”.
